Mike Seeger has died
Mike Seeger, joint founder of the 1950s folk ensemble "The New Lost City Ramblers", was a hard to overestimate influence on folk revivals in a number of countries including Australia. His dedication to Old Timey music was infectious and he was a master of old styles of playing traditional instruments including autoharp, guitar and banjo. He rediscovered musicians like the legendary Dock Boggs and bringing them into folk revival circuits of festivals and university campuses and city folk venues.
Mike and the New Lost City Ramblers toured Australia in 1965 and that's when I met him, helping Chris Kempster and others organise a completely booked out concert in the Wallace Theatre at Sydney University.
